ITO Co., Ltd. traces its roots to 1916, when Kenji Ito founded Tokyo Medical Electric Co., Ltd. That year the company produced Japan's first AC X-ray machine, and in 1934 it built the country's first shortwave therapy unit. It took the name ITO Co., Ltd. in 1957 and has focused on physiotherapy and rehabilitation equipment ever since.

Over the decades ITO has added landmark products such as the Osteotron ultrasound bone growth stimulator in 1989 and the compact Trio 300 multi-mode stimulator in 1998. Its current range covers electrotherapy and ultrasound combination units, multi-channel electrotherapy, multi-frequency ultrasound, radial shockwave, shortwave and microwave diathermy, powered traction and a robotic hand rehabilitation glove, alongside digital assessment tools, electro-acupuncture devices, moxibustion, press pellets and kinesiology tape.

ITO is known for robust, clinically practical design: clear interfaces, preset protocols and devices built to work day after day in busy departments. The company has been headquartered in Kawaguchi, Saitama, since 2018, holds ISO 9001, ISO 13485 and ISO 14001 certification, designs to CE, FDA and UL standards, and exports to more than 100 countries.
