Overview

Shortwave diathermy (SWD) delivers high-frequency electromagnetic energy — most commonly at 27.12 MHz — through capacitive plates or inductive drum/coil applicators to warm deeper tissues than surface heat packs can reach. Continuous SWD produces a thermal effect, while pulsed SWD is used where a lower average heating dose is preferred.

Clinicians use SWD as part of treatment plans for joint stiffness, chronic muscle spasm and soft-tissue conditions, usually before exercise or manual therapy. Because of the electromagnetic field, units should be installed with appropriate spacing from other equipment, and metal implants, pacemakers and pregnancy are standard contraindications.

Available on request: ENZYM sources this modality from its manufacturing partners for physiotherapy clinics, hospitals and rehabilitation centres in the UAE. Contact us with your clinical requirements and we will recommend a suitable model with full specifications and regulatory documentation.
